Tetsur Araki directed the first season of the Attack on Titan anime television series, which was created by IG Port's Wit Studio with character designs by Kyji Asano and series composition by Yasuko Kobayashi. It covers the initial plot arcs (chapters 1–34) of the Hajime Isayama manga. Because of the Titans, massive humanoids that prey on humans, humanity is forced to dwell in cities encircled by high walls in the planet of Attack on Titan. The plot centers on the exploits of Eren Jaeger and his childhood pals Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, whose lives are irrevocably altered when a massive Titan scales the town's defenses. Eren and his comrades join the Scout Regiment, an elite organization of warriors that battle Titans, swearing vengeance and to take back the world from the Titans.
From April 7 through September 29, 2013, the season aired on MBS TV, and then on Tokyo MX, FBS,TOS, HTB, TV Aichi, and BS11. On their own websites, Funimation and Crunchyroll have both made the series available for streaming with subtitles. A home video release of the anime has also been licensed by Funimation for 2014. The English-dubbed version of the series by Funimation had its premiere episode at Anime Boston[5], and subsequent episodes were made available through Funimation's subscription services. In the United States, the dub of the series began airing each week on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block on May 3, 2014, at 11:30 p.m. EDT.
